A vignette about a retro game cover on a search for meaning, featuring an original soundtrack of live piano music.

  • Move: arrows, wasd, or left thumbstick.
  • Pause/options: Esc, p, or start button.

This will be a submission to Cover Up 3, so please let me know any bugs or issues!

  • Retro game cover is from the 1982 game Pickaxe Pete for Videopac.
    • If anyone knows who the cover artist is, tell me. I'm working on hunting down the info. The original game is designed by Ed Averett and was published by Philips for the Videopac (and also by Magnavox for the Odyssey under a different cover).

Cover Up 3 jam description:

“We all remember the feeling; the game looked sooo good on the cover but the disappointment when seing the actual game. Especially true for the games back in the 80s.”

When I saw the description and cover options for this jam, I knew this beautiful man deserved redemption.

This is my greatest work.

Despite my difficulty in understanding English, I really enjoyed this game. The idea is great, the voice acting absolutely superb, and the music... it gave me chills.

And I particularly liked the umbrella moment. And then, of course, the ending!

In short, bravo

Well written, has a lot of charm to it (as usual). The music is so great, I just stayed a bit at the end screen just to listen to it. I really what you did with the voice over, it really adds a lot! Only problem I had with it was the small sounds of lip smacking and such, but otherwise it was great!

Also the fact that you used the cover itself as a driving factor of the gameplay, cut into pieces is such a brilliant idea!

Thank you! I got good at using the selection tool in various ways, that's for sure. Glad you enjoyed the music. It was a big part of the work for this game, and I'm very happy with how it turned out.
